Trust in Solar Accessories Corporation for honest, friendly, dependable service concerning all aspects of skylights, including replacement domes. Read the information below to learn how to replace a dome on your own.
Start by disassembling the unit, removing the screws around the perimeter of the top aluminum retaining angle.
Remove the angle.
Separate the domes. A box knife may be necessary.
Discard the broken dome and then clean the perimeter surface of the domes.
The gasket material or foam tape on the skylight frame should be checked to ensure it's in good condition.
Set the inner dome onto the skylight frame, and set the outer dome on top of the inner dome.
Replace and re-anchor the aluminum retaining angle so that it has a snug fit.
The domes may be sealed together by applying a small bead of silicone from GE or Dow to the top side of the perimeter surface of the inner dome.
Set the outer dome on top of the inner dome and continue as described above.
Wash your dome with mild soap, such as Ivory, and use plenty of lukewarm water.
Be sure to apply only light pressure with a soft cloth.
Rinse the dome with clear water and blot it dry with a damp cloth or chamois.
Light scratches may be removed with Turtle Wax.
Do NOT use: window cleaning sprays, kitchen scouring compounds, alcohol, or solvents such as acetone, gasoline, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, or lacquer thinner. These chemicals can have destructive effects on an acrylic dome.
